Dear Homeowner

Energy prices are volatile. And the planet has suffered enough at the hands of fossil fuels. So it’s little wonder, Welsh homeowners are taking the natural choice – fitting solar panels to draw free energy from the sun.

I’m Anthony Dixey, CEO of ECOnomy Energy Group here in Swansea. And if you’ve decided to look into solar, we’re here to give you some clear, unbiased answers:

  • How much will you save?

  • What’s your investment?

  • When will you see a return?

You can't get these answers from a desktop quote or calculator, because -

Your solar energy system is going to be unique - a custom reflection of your property and lifestyle.

Let me show you how we’ll tackle each question and get to the final numbers you'll need to make an informed decision...

HOW MUCH WILL YOU SAVE?

With the right arrangement of solar panels, plus a storage battery, you can easily cut your electricity bills by 70%.

And you could save even more, depending on how you use energy. So we’ll check your bills or smart meter, then find out:

  • How much are you spending – in the day and after dark?

  • When do you run your most “power-hungry” appliances?

  • Are you making any plans that will change your energy use – like installing a heat pump or electric boiler?

  • Are you running old appliances with a low energy rating?

  • Could you change a few habits, to push your savings up towards 80%?

We’ll go through all of this together, as the first step of your survey.

WHAT'S YOUR INVESTMENT?

Now we'll get into the tech side, to figure out the size and shape of your solar energy system. We'll be asking:

  • Is your roof strong enough for solar panels? Or does it make sense to site them in your garden?

  • How much direct sunlight do you get? (South-facing roofs get more, so they need fewer panels - unless we're compensating for light blockers like tall trees or buildings.)

  • How much free power do you need? And how much EXCESS could you generate, to sell on to the grid?

  • Where will we house your solar equipment - the inverter and storage battery? We'll consider indoors and out.

We'll tot all this up and devise your custom solar spec:

A tailored system for your home, to last for the next 25-30 years. With the right mix of panels… the right inverter.... and the right size battery to maximise your savings.

Then we’ll add insurance, repayments and mid-life replacements, to show you an UP-FRONT COST and a WHOLE LIFE COST.

Nothing hides in the small print.

WHEN WILL YOU SEE A RETURN?

With costs and savings confirmed, payback is an easy sum:

YOUR WHOLE LIFE COST

DIVIDED BY

YOUR MONTHLY SAVINGS

Example: if a £12k system saves you £100 a month, it pays for itself in 10 years.

Leaving you with 15-20 years of low cost, low carbon energy.

It’s all there in your written quotation, which we’ll prepare when you’re ready.

And all the while…

Your installation adds to the value of your home. Even with a modest uplift of 2-4%, the extra equity will offset most of your investment.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM US?

You'll have noticed, there’s a lot of “hard sell” going on in the solar market.

Aggressive ads promising low costs and unlikely savings – saying whatever it takes to get a sales rep across your doorstep so they can ramp up the price.

That’s no use to the average homeowner, who simply wants a few straight answers and the time to reflect.

So – as a growing family business that's always put customers first, we decided long ago to do things our own way.

When you contact us, you’ll talk to a solar expert - not a sales rep with a few hours’ training. Starting with a pre-survey call, we’ll take time to answer all your questions in depth. We'll follow up our survey with a detailed plan and fixed quotation - then step away while you decide in your own good time.

We are not here to “sell” you solar. We’re here to set out your options clearly, then do the work if you can see us as your long-term solar partner.

It starts with a pre-survey phone call. If you’re ready, then so are we…

What our customers say...

"They worked around our schedule to complete the installation. Now we can show we’re a green supplier striving towards a net zero target, and that’s been a real boost for procurement."

Tommscare, Port Talbot

"We asked ECOnomy Energy Group to fit our EV charging points, which brought us instant savings. Then we decided to add solar panels, to save us even more. They designed a solar spec that gave us all the energy we needed – enough to power the office and run the electric fleet!"

Abby Truscott, P.E.S. Llansamlet

"Anthony we found to be a pleasure to have complete work required on our building, all work carried out and completed within a respectable time due to other work / job commitments. Anthony was able to meet on planned dates to carry out work and costs for work we were happy to accommodate."

Roger Viccars - St John Cymru Wales, Neath

"Service was excellent, from start to finish. Managed to fit us in within a day for an EV charger to be installed. The work wasn't easy, they had to go under our front steps and front border, through walls, dig down under a border of chippings yet when I arrived home, it was all so clean and tidy, you wouldn't think anything had been done! Really impressed and most grateful for the advice and support with everything."

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sell power back to the grid?

Your energy supplier will draw your surplus power automatically, and pay you for the privilege, under the UK Government’s Smart Export Guarantee. The money you earn will offset the cost of any power you draw from the grid when your solar energy dips.

Just keep in mind that different providers pay different rates, so it pays to shop around for the best deal. We'll discuss this as part of your plan.

Will my electricity bills go down straight away?

Yes – but if your system is installed in the autumn or winter, savings will be modest at first, as you won’t have much power in your storage battery. You’ll see the real difference when the sun comes back – then the following autumn/winter, your bills will stay low thanks to the power you’ve stored.

When will I see a return on my investment?

Solar panels are a long-term investment. If you’re meeting the full cost yourself, payback for a typical house can take around 8 years. However:

  • If your bills are higher than average, your payback is faster.

  • From day one, your monthly bills will fall – and you’re less exposed to price hikes.

Will solar panels increase the value of my property?

Yes. A home with stylish solar panels is highly desirable, so you can easily expect an increase of 2- 4%. What’s more, you’ll find a buyer much faster – as any estate agent will tell you.

Just beware, there is a lot of hype around this question. There are blogs out there claiming an uplift of 25%, which is clearly ridiculous. So if you're working an increase into your budget, it's best to keep it at the lower end.

Is my roof suitable for solar panels?

In theory, we can fit solar panels to any domestic roof that’s structurally sound. But first, we should consider the available space, the angle of the sun, and any obstructions to direct sunlight like nearby trees or buildings. We may find that ground-mounted panels are more suitable – especially if your roof is old or you have open space to spare.

If there’s a problem with my solar panels, will my power cut out?

No. Firstly, because you’ll have your regular electricity supply for immediate back-up. And secondly, because we’ll attend to any problems quickly. We'll be monitoring your solar energy system remotely, so if anything goes wrong – like a problem with your battery or inverter – we’ll know about it straight away and fix it under the terms of your warranty.

How long is my warranty?

Standard solar panels come with a 25-year insurance-backed warranty, made up of a 12-year manufacturer’s warranty and 13-year output warranty. The new style bifacial panels come with a 30-year warranty, but they're more expensive and only suit a small number of domestic properties. We can discuss that further when we talk.

Is there funding available, to help with the cost?

The UK and Welsh governments offer solar grants to low income families, and many local authorities have their own domestic grant schemes. There’s also help for properties outside the National Grid, and some mortgage providers offer solar loans with cashback. We can advise you on all this as part of your Go Solar Plan, and give you all the details you need for your application.

Will I still need a regular electrical supply?

Yes. Your solar panels come with a battery storage system that will power your home throughout the year, for as long as you have energy to spare. As soon as your energy is used up, your home will switch back to the grid. So most homes need a regular electrical supply as back-up.
